DESCRIPTION:This conference explores the dissemination of large-scale land maps in France and the Habsburg Monarchy during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, contributing to the development of “mapping literacy.” It examines how maps became commonplace tools beyond expert circles, marking a significant cognitive and cultural shift in spatial representation. It also demonstrates how professional surveying methods and graphic techniques shaped, disseminated, and occasionally undermined “ordinary cartography.\nProjet PlaFonD : Les PLAns FONciers avant le cadastre d’État (France / Monarchie habsbourgeoise).\nComment la littératie cartographique transforme-t-elle le rapport à l’espace ? Entre 1715 et 1820, toute l’Europe voit les plans fonciers, autrefois réservés à l’élite, devenir des outils courants. En France et dans la Monarchie des Habsbourg, terrains d’enquête privilégiés, le projet PlaFonD analyse cette révolution cognitive : circulation des modèles administratifs, diffusion des cultures visuelles, rôle des pratiques professionnelles (ingénieurs, géomètres, juristes) et des savoirs paysans sur l’espace. Une base de données ouverte, appuyée sur une typologie documentaire inédite, valorisera ce patrimoine via une interface cartographique.
